Land Holds Its Own

Richard (Dick) Perry

As a commercial real estate agent handling industrial property and vacant land for quite a while, I have come to appreciate particularly two quotes that have stuck with me.

The first is from an appraiser friend Paul Koepke who guided me in my early years learning the appraisal business. He quoted from the Preamble to the REALTORS® Code of Ethics “Under all is the Land”.

The second quote is from a man I worked for in later years from who I learned a whole lot about finding opportunities and making things happen. Dusty Durrill, investor/developer 2010, told me, “After all, ‘The Lord only made one crop of land’.”

Land continues to hold its own all over the world despite all the worry in the news these days. It continues to be a good part of anybody’s investment portfolio or asset base. Land Values in Texas have held up or increased somewhat over the last year according to a recent study released by TAMU College Station Real Estate Center.
