ICSC RECon 2018
Lynann’s thoughts on ICSC RECon 2018:
At first glance, I noticed that attendance seemed light. Reports stated that there were less retailers than last year with booths. Retailers typically dominate the South Hall of the convention center. At 9:30 a.m. on Monday (opening day), I thought the South Hall was very quiet with little activity. Of course it picked up during the day. Central Hall was very busy however which was mainly the larger firms and Landlords ( e.g. Brixmor, KImco, JLL, Weiztman, etc.). Looks like there was quite a bit of deal making in Central Hall. As always, there were many municipalities represented as the are trying to pull retail into their cities. City of Kingsville was represented and I was very impressed with their group and the activity in their city.
Overall, the big box and junior anchor kings are still Ross, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and value related tenants.
The most active group is restaurant and entertainment. Thank goodness we cannot go to the internet to eat and enjoy bands. From small users like Jersey Mike’s, Subway, McDonald’s, Denny’s, Chic Fil A up to Dave & Busters and Top Golf we will see activity.
On an ending note, I had a good convention and came back with some good opportunities. Now to implement those opportunities when returning back to Texas (man I love Texas).
